����԰ Campus Ministries invites the community to the first Deeper Revival Night of the academic year on Monday, October 12. This worship service, open to all ages, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Harman Chapel on the BU campus.

Deeper Revival Nights are “an invitation for all to come experience more, to encounter His presence, unify hungry hearts, and learn to carry revival together,” said Campus Pastor Mason West.

Beginning at 6 p.m., doors will open, and BU Campus Ministries will host its weekly Abide Prayer Room leading into the revival night. This Deeper Revival Night will feature guest worship leader Joe Dixon.

“Joe is family, and we can’t wait to have him in the room,” West added. “Come hungry for more of Him. Let’s go deeper!”

On Monday morning, United States Probation Officer Philip Cyrus spoke to two classes. Cyrus is a BU alumnus and currently serves in the Southern District of West Virginia.

Attorney Zachary Smith spoke to a class on Monday evening. Smith is another BU alumnus who received the Distinguished Young Alumnus of the Year award from the university in 2023. He currently serves at Buckland Law Firm in Pearisburg, Virginia.

Two representatives from the Appalachian School of Law—the Senior Admissions Director, Glenna Owens, and Dean of Students, The Honorable Will Thompson—visited on Wednesday morning. Together, ����԰ and the Appalachian School of Law offer a 3+3 degree program that allows qualifying students to earn a bachelor’s degree and a Juris Doctor in as little as 6 years.

Finally, Gavin Scott spoke to students on Wednesday afternoon. Scott is a Senior Trooper for the Virginia State Police.

Bluefield Youth and Community Theatre will present its first production of “Smoke on the Mountain” on Thursday, October 15, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Harman Chapel. Tickets can be reserved at . Additional shows will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Friday’s festivities will begin with a golf outing for the university’s alumni and friends, beginning at 11 a.m. at Fincastle in Bluefield, Virginia.

At noon, registration and the hospitality room will open in rooms A and B of Shott Hall, and the Homecoming Family Luncheon will be held in the dining hall.

There will be a Ram 2 Ram panel held at 2:30 p.m. in the Jack Marcom Student Center of Shott Hall. Students can hear from ����԰ alumni as they share stories about their time at BU and what life has been like after graduation.

The men’s soccer team will compete against the Columbia College Koalas at 3:30 p.m. at the East River Soccer Complex in Bluefield, West Virginia.

����԰’s School of Education and Social Sciences will celebrate its 50th anniversary at 4 p.m. in the Dr. Gerald Clay Curriculum Lab, located in room 101 of Easley Library. Former education faculty, administrators, and graduates are invited to celebrate the school’s legacy and honor this year’s recipients of the Dr. Donna Watson Goodness and Light Alumni Award.

Beginning at 6 p.m., a mixer for alumni and friends will be held at Culture in Bluefield, Virginia.

A reunion for alumni from the 1970s is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. in rooms A and B of Shott Hall.

The women’s volleyball team will compete against the Montreat College Cavaliers, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Dome Gymnasium. A bonfire will follow on the field outside the Dome.

On Saturday, registration and the hospitality room will open at 8 a.m. in rooms A and B of Shott Hall. An alumni breakfast will begin at the same time in the dining hall.

A campus tour will be offered by our student ambassadors at 9 a.m., starting at the front steps of Lansdell Hall.

The Alumni Association will meet at 9:30 a.m. in rooms A and B of Shott Hall.

The Alumni Awards Luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. in Harman Chapel. Alumni award recipients are nominated by their peers to be recognized for community service, professional accomplishments, and personal achievements.

Also at 11 a.m., the women’s volleyball team will compete against the Truett McConnell University Bears in the Dome Gymnasium.

The Rams football team will face off against the Reinhardt University Eagles at 1:30 p.m. at Mitchell Stadium in Bluefield, West Virginia. Prior to the game, a tailgate lunch will be available in the stadium parking lot at 11:30 a.m., featuring a performance by Noah Spencer. To reserve a tailgating space for your group, please use our . The Commission on Colleges and Universities approved the program on September 18th and included it within ����԰’s scope of accreditation. Recruitment is now underway for the inaugural class.��

Developed in collaboration with Appalachian College of Pharmacy, the Bachelor of Science in Applied Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical Sciences prepares students for careers in pharmaceutical manufacturing, biotechnology, laboratory research, quality assurance, regulatory affairs, and related fields.��

The degree will also provide a foundation for students seeking advanced education in pharmacy, medicine, biomedical sciences, and regulatory science.��

“This program gives students a clear pathway from undergraduate education into industries and professional fields that need well-prepared graduates,” President Steve Peterson said. “Our collaboration with Appalachian College of Pharmacy brings together the strengths of both institutions and creates new opportunities for students throughout our region and beyond.”��

The 120-credit-hour program will combine instruction at ����԰ with synchronous online coursework, in-person laboratory training, industry internships, and undergraduate research. Courses will be taught by ����԰ faculty and designated Appalachian College of Pharmacy faculty members serving as University adjunct faculty.��

Students will work in a dedicated pharmaceutical sciences laboratory equipped for compounding solid, liquid, and semi-solid dosage forms. They will also gain experience with analytical testing and quality-control processes used in pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical settings.��

The program arrives as pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies increase domestic research and manufacturing operations. That expansion has created demand for graduates with practical laboratory experience, analytical skills, and an understanding of pharmaceutical development and regulation.��

Potential career paths include pharmaceutical manufacturing, formulation development, laboratory analysis, quality assurance and quality control, regulatory support, biopharmaceutical operations, and clinical or academic research.��

The degree is part of ����԰’s broader effort to help students explore and enter health-related professions through academic programs, experiential learning, and partnerships with health care and professional institutions.��

That work will be on display during ����԰’s Health Pathways Day from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 10th. The event will introduce students to health-related educational and career opportunities through ����԰ and participating partners, including Appalachian College of Pharmacy and the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine.��

Prospective students and their families will be able to learn more about health professions, meet representatives from participating institutions, and explore pathways from college into professional education and employment.��

����԰ will host its 35th Annual Duremdes Christian Emphasis Week, September 21-25, 2026. The week builds on regular ministry events with added opportunities for students to engage with God’s Word and Christian community.

This week will explore the university’s theme for the academic year, “Harvest,” based on Galatians 6:9: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (NIV). Pastor and evangelist Danny Morales will serve as the speaker for this week’s three Chapel services.

The Christian Emphasis event was created in 1992 by Drs. Gene and Jane Duremdes of Princeton, West Virginia. Thanks to their faith and generosity, hundreds of BU students have made professions of faith and been baptized over the past three decades.

Sensing a special calling to “share with the students of ����԰ some of the blessings they have received from the Lord,” the Duremdes created the event with BU leaders to allow students and the public at-large to “examine their spiritual lives” and to “seek answers to life-impacting questions.” Now, the university sets aside a week each school year for students and members of the community to focus on their faith.

Our student ministries team will kick off the week on Monday night with their regular Home worship service at 7:30 p.m. While normally held in Harman Chapel, this week’s service will be held in the Quad, weather permitting. These services, consisting of student-led worship music and a message from a BU student or alum, aim to make students feel truly at home in the presence of Christ.

The university will host its weekly Chapel service on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in Harman Chapel, the first of three services with Danny Morales. Additional Chapel services will be held on Thursday and Friday mornings.

Roots Night will begin on Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the Jack Marcom Student Center of Shott Hall. Roots is the university’s discipleship initiative, enabling students to join small groups and become more deeply rooted in their faith.

Dr. MacMillan’s leadership was marked by prayerful decision-making and dependence on God. Throughout his tenure, he worked to refocus the institution on Christ and equip students with a Christian worldview. Additionally, he oversaw extensive fundraising, improvements to campus facilities, and expansions to academic program offerings. During Dr. MacMillan’s time as President, community engagement, alumni support, and endowment growth increased significantly.

In the words of Bluefield College historian Rev. David Armbrister, “Dr. Mac left behind a legacy of good leadership, heartfelt in all respects, and a strong Christian foundation upon which a new president can build.”

The website has experienced major changes in recent years as the university worked to improve screen reader compatibility and meet rigorous accessibility standards. The university and its partners have built on these back-end developments, leveraging new tools to make the website faster to load and quicker to navigate.

The new, more modern design represents the evolution of the Bluefield brand. By investing in our campus, growing our online student population, and launching doctoral degrees, the university is responding to student and workforce needs while continuing to value our Christ-centered mission, servant leader mindset, and history as Bluefield College.

In the workshop “Wait… Who Decided That?!” Ms. Hill explored the processes behind school decisions. She drew from her 37 years as a teacher, school administrator, and district administrator to help BU students prepare to teach and lead in today’s education systems.

����԰ has a 50-year history of training school administrators, counselors, and teachers through its School of Education and Social Sciences. It offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, including undergraduate programs with teacher licensure and Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation accreditation.

Tazewell County Public Schools is a long-time partner of ����԰, opening doors for several university alumni to complete their student teaching and begin working after graduation.

Thanks to the coordinating efforts of Dr. Kimberly Farmer, who serves as Dean of the ����԰ School of Criminal Justice, eight BU students were able to visit the ASL campus and learn more about legal education.

The group of Bluefield students, which included freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, had the chance to sit in on a first-year law school class. Additionally, they met with ASL’s Dean of Students, Will Thompson, and heard from BU alumnus Travis Honaker about his transition to law school.
